This weekend

  • Wednesday, 7/23 to Sunday, 7/27 — FloydFest 25 — Aurora at FestivalPark (5826 Floyd Highway North, Check). Southeast’s premier, award-winning summer outdoor music festival, featuring vibrant and varied vendors, quality craft brews and chews, healing arts, workshops and whimsy, camping and children’s activities, outdoor adventure, onsite art installations and a final lineup with almost 100 artists performing on seven stages over five days.   • Thursday, 7/24 to Sunday, 7/27 — “Guys and Dolls” presented by Attic Productions (7490 Roanoke Rd., Fincastle). Set in the colorful world of 1950s New York City, Guys and Dolls is a high-energy musical comedy that follows the unlikely love stories of a slick gambler, a prim missionary, a showgirl dreaming of marriage, and a craps game that just won't stay underground. Thursday,  July 24

  • 4 to 7 p.m. — Meet the Artist: Raven Skye McDonough at Blue Ridge PBS (1215 McNeil Dr. SW, Roanoke). Light refreshments and live music from Kinnfolk. McDonough is a paper and mixed media collage artist who has refined her technique of “painting” with paper by layering tiny bits of patterned paper onto her canvas to create the effect she wants. In her work, she also experiments with photography, painting, mono-printing, and extending the image off the canvas. While she is inspired by nature and wildlife, the subject of her artwork often goes much deeper. 
  • 4 to 7 p.m. — Gaymer Night at Roanoke Diversity Center (425 Campbell Ave. SW., Roanoke). Hang out with other local young adults in the lounge, watch the latest music videos, play board games, chat and mingle. From foot-stomping folk-rock to sharp verses and offbeat humor, it’s a variety show with a rebel heart. Grab a drink, kick back, and let the weird, wonderful magic unfold. Jefferson St., Roanoke) We take the first 15 pieces to walk in the door and there are only three rules: pieces must be original (no copyright violations), short (five minutes or less), and not break anything (including the law). Bring your plays, monologues, songs, dance, poetry, mime, juggling, comedy, tragedy, Improvisation, dada, magic; we've even seen people do floral arrangements! Pieces are accepted starting at 8:30 pm, doors open at 9pm, and the show starts at 9:30 pm, running on average an hour long. Anything can happen and usually does.
