  • Friday, 1/9 to Sunday, 1/11 — Stampede Championship Rodeo at the Salem Civic Center (1001 Roanoke Blvd, Salem). Features bull riding, bronco busting, and barrel racing, and more. ($)
  • Friday, 1/9 to Wednesday, 1/14 — Do Portugal Circus at Valley View Mall (4802 Valley View Blvd., Roanoke). Witness the incredible skill of aerialists and jugglers, hold your breath as fearless performers ride motorcycles inside the Globe of Death and prepare to be delighted and laugh at hilarious clowns. This circus does not include animals in their performances. Continues through Jan. 25. ($)

Wednesday, Jan. 7

  • 6 to 8 p.m. — Silent Book Club at Three Notch’d (24 Campbell Ave. SE, Roanoke). No assigned reading. No pressure.

Deputy Director of Exhibitions Katie Hirsch will provide artistic and historical insights into Peale’s “The Artist in His Museum” along with a review of the Taubman Museum’s very own cabinet of curiosities.

Monday, Jan. 12

  • 6:30 p.m. — Live music: Irish Music Session at Big Lick Brewing Co. (409 Salem Ave. SW, Roanoke). 
  • 6:30 p.m. — PedalSafe ROA January Meeting at Blindhouse Beer Company (534 Salem Ave. SW, Roanoke). We will be presenting an overview of our work in 2025 and what we have in store for 2026, including key advocacy efforts, opportunities to get involved, our new public meeting format, and much more.

Tuesday, Jan. 13

  • 4 to 7 p.m. — Open Art Studio Space at Wellness on Melrose (2502 Melrose Ave. NW, Roanoke). Work on your own project or get inspiration from a resource artist. Use our supplies or bring your own. All artistic levels are welcome. Repeats weekly.
  • 4 to 8 p.m. — Happy Hour for All at A Few Old Goats Brewing — Roanoke (515 8th St. SW, Suite 228, Roanoke). 
  • 5 to 6:30 p.m. — Lecture/Networking: “Power Moves: Navigating Priorities, People & Purpose With Strength” with Kismet Loftin-Bell at Hollins University (7916 Williamson Rd., Roanoke; Goodwin PDR, Moody Center). Power Moves helps women understand how to use their natural talents (via CliftonStrengths) to set priorities that matter, navigate tricky collaborations, and transform conflict into connection. Participants will leave with a clearer sense of direction, empowered communication tools, and a personal “Power Move Map” they can use daily.
  • 5:30 p.m. — Roanoke 100 Miler Kickoff at the Historic Fishburn Mansion (714 13th St. SW, Roanoke). The half-mile walk to Vic Thomas Park will start at 5:30 on the dot, so please arrive ahead of time to participate. Walkers will have the option of walking another half-mile to Wasena Park to see the progress on the new skate park and pump track before backtracking to the starting point. Parking is available in two lots located on the grounds of Fishburn Mansion, which is accessible via the driveway on Wasena Terrace SW. Signs for parking directions will also be posted to help. Additional parking is available street-side if the lots are full. Since this will be in the evening, we ask people to bring clothes or accessories for visibility (reflective clothing, safety light, small flashlight).
  • 6 to 8 p.m. — Silent Book Club at Olde Salem Brewing Company (315 Market St., Roanoke). No assigned reading. No pressure.
  • 7 p.m. — “The Sleeping Beauty” performed by International Ballet Stars at the Jefferson Center’s Shaftman Performance Hall (541 Luck Ave., Roanoke). ($)
  • 9:30 p.m. — Live music: The Request Line with Jared Stout at Martin’s Downtown Bar and Grill (413 1st St., Roanoke).

  • Jan. 21, 8 p.m. — Stand-up: Ryan Conner at the Grandin Theatre (1310 Grandin Rd. SW, Roanoke). Conner has been on the Late Late Show with James Corden and was a Top-10 finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing where judge Norm Macdonald called his first set “The best I’ve seen in five years.” ($)
  • Jan. 25, 4 p.m. — Epiphany Procession presented by choirs from St. John’s Episcopal Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, at St. John’s Episcopal Church (205 Elmwood Ave., Lynchburg). This service recalls the journey of the Magi, the baptism of Jesus, and Jesus’s first miracle at the wedding in Cana. 
  • Jan. 31, 5 p.m. — Dead of Winter Murder Mystery at Crystal Spring Grocery Co. (2205 Crystal Spring Ave., Roanoke). Play a character, solve clues, and interrogate all of the suspects. Everyone will get their character role at this adults-only murder mystery event, so be sure to arrive by 5:45. This is an adults-only event, and everyone attending must purchase a ticket.
