This weekend

  • Thursday through Sunday, 3/12 to 3/15 — “Southern Hospitality” presented by Attic Productions (7490 Roanoke Rd., Fincastle). A fast-paced Southern comedy packed with sass, schemes, salsa, and small-town heart. When the Futrelle sisters promise a massive town festival to impress a salsa factory rep, chaos unfolds.   • Friday through Sunday, 3/13 to 3/15 — “Buddies” presented by The Bear Theatre at Community High School (302 Campbell Ave. SE, Roanoke). “Buddies” is a "Bromantic comedy," that explores why men have such a hard time making friends. What Do Guy Friends Even Do?" asks playwright Ben Abbott, a Hollins MFA playwrights program graduate. Continues through March 22.

  • 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — PedalSafe ROA + Strong Towns Roanoke March Public Meeting: Envision Williamson Road meeting starting at Market Square (1 Market Sq., Roanoke). From there, the group will go on a 3-mile group bike ride up Williamson Road to experience the current roadway demonstration project. Bring a bike, helmet, and lights! At 6:30pm, gather at Williamson Road Library to discuss the experience, the project's outlook, and safety for all Williamson Road users. There will be a group ride returning to the start after the meeting. 
  • 5:30 to 8 p.m. — Parenting the Love and Logic Way presented by Carilion Children’s Pediatric Medicine (4348 Electric Rd., Roanoke, in the Mill Mountain Room). For parents and guardians of children of any age. Parenting is certainly rewarding but it can also be frustrating. Raising happy, healthy, and well-adjusted children can sometimes seem overwhelming.   • Through March. 22. — “9 to 5: The Musical” presented by Mill Mountain Theatre (1 Market Sq., Roanoke). Based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.
  • Through March 22 — Jacob Smith — Thoughts and Prayers at Olin Hall Galleries at Roanoke College (240 High St., Salem). Using furniture, artifacts, dioramas, and sculptural elements, Smith’s work interrogates the forces that shape identity: gender roles, religious dogma, political propaganda, militarism, and consumerism. "Thoughts & Prayers" is a space for speculation, satire, and critique—a place to see the world not as it is, but as it might appear from the outside looking in.
  • Through Sept. 27 — “CHANGE” at Art on 1st (300 1st St. SW, Roanoke). Change is a constant. We experience it through shifting seasons, changing landscapes, and transitions in our lives like moves, new schools or jobs, personal growth, and even the small change we carry in our pockets. We’ve invited artists to reflect on what change means to them and create a work that expresses their personal interpretation of transformation, transition, or evolution.
