The Roanoke Rambler seeks an energetic journalist who can expand our brand of local, investigative news, particularly through video and photographic storytelling.
This job is only eligible to individuals currently partnering with Report for America as corps members. This is a fixed-term position, ending June 2028, with the potential for, but no guarantee of, renewal.

We seek a self-motivated journalist who is brimming with ideas. We want someone who believes in the journalistic credo of afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted — and who embodies that in their work. We have been expanding our reach with video journalism and are looking for a candidate who is eager to:
- Film short, vertical-form videos, either of stories unto themselves or of our journalists explaining a written story they have published
- Grow our presence on social media, particularly by producing, reporting, editing and publishing recurring video stories on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook
- Work collaboratively with fellow journalists on stories, shooting videos and/or photography
- Report written stories, depending on the candidate’s abilities and interests
- Adapt in a fast-paced newsroom environment, initially involving a range of general assignment coverage
You understand that working in a small digital newsroom startup is dynamic. Responsibilities can adapt to your strengths. If you are passionate about our mission and can advance our journalism, apply.
Salary estimate: $50,000.
Benefits: $3,000 healthcare stipend, sick leave and paid holidays. The Rambler does not provide additional benefits.
