State Senate Race Heats Up As 3 Seek Democratic Party Nod in Roanoke Valley District

Roanoke City Council members Trish White-Boyd and Luke Priddy as well as political novice DeAnthony “DA” Pierce are running.

Roanoke City Council members Trish White-Boyd and Luke Priddy as well as political novice DeAnthony “DA” Pierce have announced campaigns for the Virginia Senate.

The trio will compete for the Democratic nomination to succeed retiring Sen. John Edwards, D-Roanoke.

Candidates for the Democratic nod have until April 6 to announce a bid. Whoever wins a June primary will face Sen. David Suetterlein, R-Roanoke County, in the Nov. 7 general election.

The district encompassing Roanoke, Salem and parts of Roanoke County and Montgomery County, leans Republican.
